DAVIDSON, N.C. — Former Wildcat great Sophia Aleksandravicius is enjoying a successful second year overseas in professional women's basketball as part of the BC Belfius Namur Capitale team in the Belgium Basketball League.
Named All-Lithuanian LMKL Forward of the Year by Eurobasket.com last year, Aleksandravicius recently helped Belfius Namur qualify for the Eurocup playoffs for just the second time in the team's history. It is off to a 10-3 overall in the league standings, good for fourth place, while owning a 3-4 record in the Eurocup Group H standings.
Aleksandravicius, who played in the Lithuanian LMKL league last year, has played in 11 of the 13 games this season. In over 28 minutes a game, she is averaging 12.7 points on 56.4 percent shooting (53-of-94) and pulling in 8.6 rebounds, while averaging 1.3 blocks a contest. The 6-foot-5 forward is also shooting 83.8 percent from the free-throw line, hitting 31-of-37 attempts.
The Pound Ridge, N.Y., native has scored in double figures in all but one game for Belfius Namur, reaching a season-high 17 points twice. In addition, Aleksandravicius has recorded five double-doubles after getting seven last year in 32 games.
She has been equally as impressive in Eurocup games, averaging 12.3 points and over eight rebounds a game. She is shooting 43.8 percent from the floor and has missed just four of her 20 free-throw attempts (80 percent). Twice she has reached the 20-point mark, going back-to-back in games against PINKK-Pecsi and UNIQA Eurol. Aleksandravicius earned a double-double, 14 points and 13 rebounds, in a rematch against PINKK-Pecsi, with Belfius Namur picking up a 73-61 win.
The forward is one of three Americans playing with Belfius Namur, joining Briana Gilbreath (USC '12) and Erin Marie Lawless (Purdue '07).
Aleksandravicius '13 graduated from Davidson at the time as the program's all-time leader in points (1,878- second all-time now) and set six other records. She still holds five all-time records along with three single-season marks and is one of only three basketball players, both men and women, at Davidson to have over 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
A two-time Southern Conference Player of the Year, Aleksandravicius was the program's only player to earn All-SoCon First Team honors by both the media and coaches three times.
