WINSTON-SALEM N.C. – The Davidson volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss at Wake Forest Friday evening by set scores of 25-21, 20-25, 13-25, 24-26.

Rachel Earnhardt recorded 10 kills while Hannah Rau tallied nine kills for the Wildcats. Mikayla Derochie dished out 31 assists and added nine digs while Morgan Shannon added 22 digs. Mary Harriet Moore notched four total blocks, including a solo and four block assists.

Wake Forest was led by Jazmen Russell who totaled a team-high 19 kills, while Matalee Reed and Kylie Long added 13 kills apiece. Danae Reed notched 52 assists and five digs as Caroline Wolf added 22 digs.

The Demon Deacons kept the score close early in the first set, but a kill by Michelle McNeight gave the Wildcats the lead, 23-19. Davidson never looked back, as the Wildcats took the set. Derochie had six assists in the set and Rau recorded five kills.

The second set was tight from the beginning to the end as the teams found themselves deadlocked down the stretch, 13-13. Wake Forest found the upper hand, however, and used a 10-5 run to even the match, 25-20.

It was all Wake Forest in the third to hold a 20-10 lead midway through the frame. The Demon Deacons used a 7-1 run to register match point, 25-13.

The fourth set mirrored the second as the teams traded points back-and-fourth until the very end. Harvard held a two-point edge late, 21-19, but Wake Forest came back to even the score at 23. An Earnhardt kill put Davidson on top before two kills from Wake Forest's Brianna Lynch seal the victory for the Demon Deacons.

Davidson returns to the court tomorrow to take on N.C. Central at 11 a.m. before facing off against Presbyterian at 5 p.m.
