Field Hockey Falls to Saint Joseph's, 1-0

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson field hockey team dropped their second Atlantic 10 game of the season, falling to Saint Joseph's, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at Belk Turf Field.
In an evenly played and scoreless first half, Saint Joseph's narrowly outshot the Wildcats, 7-5, while Davidson (1-7, 0-2) held a 3-1 advantage in penalty corners.
Davidson's Emily Leytham made four first-half saves to keep the Hawks off the board in the opening minutes. The Wildcats forced two saves by Amelia Deibler in the first stanza with both shots on goal coming from Melissa Funsten.
The only score came at the 57:33 mark. Kristen Moisey logged the goal with a shot from in front following a penalty corner and a pass from Nicole Gerdes.
Leytham finished the game with nine saves.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. when they welcome William & Mary to Belk Turf Field.
