Davidson Takes Third At Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The Davidson women's cross country team placed four runners in the top-15 en route to a third-place finish at the Charlotte Invitational. The Wildcats placed third as a team, finished with 74 points, trailing second-place Samford, which scored 62 points. South Carolina won the meet with a low 37 points.
"I am really pleased with the effort of our girls tonight," said director of cross country and track and field Jen Straub. "I am happy with where the girls are at this point in the season, and I am excited to see what we can do in the upcoming weeks.
Freshman Sarah Sears led the way for the Wildcats, finishing the race in a time of 22:49.8 to take 11th place. Teammate Helen Webster wasn't far behind, completing the 6K course in a time of 12:03.7, good for 12th overall.
Junior Olivia Menden was the third Davidson finisher, placing 14th in a time of 22:53.0. Right on Menden's heels was Sierra Ponthiers, who posted a time of 22:57.2. Hayden Bates claimed 22nd place with a time of 23:16.1 to round out the Wildcat's top-five finishers.
Davidson returns to the trails Oct. 11 for the Royal Cross Country Championship in Charlotte, N.C.
