Golf Opens Fall at Tar Heel Intercollegiate

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson men's golf team will begin their 2014-15 campaign this weekend at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate hosted by North Carolina.
The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on the Par 72, 7,242-yard UNC Finley Golf Course. Tee times will begin at 8 a.m. each day off No. 1 and No. 10.
Under the direction of head coach Tim Straub, who is in his 15th year at the helm, the Wildcats welcome back three starters from last year's team that posted five top-five finishes and a school-record 293.16 stroke average.
Among those returning include senior Todd Eckstein, who had a career-best 74.67 stroke average a year ago, which included a personal-best third-place showing at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate.
Also back for the Wildcats this year is senior Ralph Blasey, juniors David Sargent and Alex Nianouris and sophomore Andy Simmons. This year's freshmen class includes Spencer Papciak and Nathan Tenpas.
In addition to Davidson and the host Tar Heels, the 19-team field will feature Boston College, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Elon, Furman, Gardner Webb, George Mason, GRU-Augusta, Kennesaw State, Maryland, Mercer, North Carolina, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, UT-Chattanooga and Virginia Commonwealth.
The Wildcats' fall slate will also include tournaments hosted by Notre Dame (Sept. 28-30), Georgia State (Oct. 13-14) and South Carolina (Oct. 18-19).
