DAVIDSON, N.C. — Monday afternoon the Atlantic 10 Conference announced the women's basketball league opponents for the 2014-15 season.
Davidson, which became an official member of the A-10 on July 1, will face each of the 13 conference opponents during the 16-game league slate that features eight home and eight away games.
The Wildcats will play home and home series with Fordham, Saint Louis and VCU. In addition, Davidson will host Dayton, La Salle, Rhode Island, Richmond and Saint Joseph's.
The A-10 had a very successful campaign a year ago. Fordham beat top-seeded Dayton 63-51 to win the 2014 A-10 title. The Rams were joined in the 2014 NCAA Tournament by UD and Saint Joseph's. The Hawks knocked off Georgia in first-round play, before falling to eventual National Champion UConn in round two. Duquesne, George Washington, St. Bonaventure and VCU were all selected to take part in the 2014 WNIT, with GW advancing to the third round of play.
The A-10 has now seen at least 50 percent of its membership participate in postseason play in five of the last six seasons. The A-10 has earned three NCAA Tournament bids in six of the last nine years and 17 times overall. The league has also had at least seven of its teams advance to postseason play in each of the last five years.
The conference also had seven teams with 20 or more wins for the first time since the 2010-11 and its members combined for its highest winning percentage in non-conference play since the 2002-03 season.
The complete 2014-15 Wildcat women's basketball schedule will be released at a later date.
The Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship will be played in Richmond, Va., at the Richmond Coliseum, March 4-8.
