BOONE, N.C. -- Becca Jones sored the lone tally as the Davidson Wildcats dropped a 4-1 decision to Ball State at Appalachian State Sunday afternoon.

The scoring started when Ball State capitalized on its first corner of the day halfway through the first frame. Merinda Morley received the ball from Lexi Kavanaugh at the top of the circle. Morley fired a shot, but Davidson's Emily Leytham came up with the block. The ball bounced off Leytham and to the stick of Tori Widrick who put the Cardinals ahead, 1-0.

With four minutes remaining in the first half, Ball State struck again as Widrick took a deep shot from the top of the circle that Kavanaugh redirected to the back of the net to give her team a two-goal advantaging heading into the half.

The Wildcats delivered constant pressure in the second half, gaining momentum and chances throughout, but the Cardinals got on the scoreboard first. Kavanaugh padded Ball State's lead at the 47:33 minute mark when she tallied her second score of the day.

Davidson answered 5:27 later when Jones buried her first goal of the season. The sophomore got a hold of the ball in the front of the cage and snuck it between the post and past Ball State's Shelby Henley to cut the deficit to two.

Bianca Velez sealed the victory for Ball State with just under five minutes remaining in the game. The senior stole a pass and snukc one in the left side of the cage. Tori Widrick was credited with the assist.

Ball State held the offensive advantages in shots, 9-7. Leytham and Connie Cape split time in the cage for the Wildcats. Leytham had three saves and Cape blocked two shots.

The Wildcats return to action next weekend at Belk Turf field for a pair of matches. Davidson first takes on Rider Saturday, Sept. 6 before welcoming Wake Forest on Sunday, Sept. 7
