Soon To Be Wildcat Timpton Shines in N.C. All Star Game

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Incoming Davidson women's basketball freshman guard Saadia Timpton capped off her outstanding prep career by participating in the prestigious North Carolina women's East-West All-Star game, July 22, at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
Timpton had a solid game in leading the West squad to a dominating 82-68 victory over the East. The soon to be Wildcat hit 6-of-10 shots from the floor and added a free throw for 13 points, which was tied for second-most on the West team. She was one of five West players overall to reach double digits.
A local product from Myers Park in Charlotte, N.C., Timpton had an outstanding senior prep season capped off by helping the Mustangs take home the N.C. 4A State Championship title. Myers Park went 30-1 this past winter and finished ranked No. 1 in the state and 13th in the nation in the USA Today national rankings. Timpton averaged close to 11 points a game and nearly four assists as a senior.
The East-West All-Star Games were founded in 1949 by Coach Bob Jamieson of Grimsley High School and Smith Barrier, the Sports Editor of the Greensboro Daily News, to help finance the North Carolina Coaches Association coaching clinic. The games feature players who have just graduated from high school – the best from the Eastern half of North Carolina against the best from the West.
Women's basketball was added to the All-Star Games in the summer of 1975, and soccer for both men and women premiered in 1992 at the UNCG Soccer Stadium, where they are still held.
Timpton will be joining fellow freshmen Mackenzie Latt and Diona Johnson this coming Fall as they will team up with seven returning letterwinners. This season begins a new era for Davidson as it moves to the Atlantic 10 after a 21-year run in the Southern Conference.
