DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson runner Sarah Paddon has extended her season by at least one more meet, qualifying to run in the NCAA East Regional Meet in Jacksonville, Fla.
Paddon is slated to run Thursday, May 29, at 6 p.m. in the first round on the campus of the University of North Florida. Paddon was selected to compete in her signature event, the 1,500-meter run, after ranking in the top-48 for declared athletes in the East Region. She is seeded 35th in the event.
Paddon has had much success in the event this season and enters the meet as the 2014 Southern Conference champion in the 1,500m. She posted a career-best of 4:24.54 at the meet to set a new school record, which she lowered to 4:22.90 soon after at the Virginia Challenge.
The 2014 season will mark Paddon's first as an NCAA qualifier. She is the first SoCon champion for the 'Cats since 2009, and the first NCAA qualifier since 2007. High jumper Kristen Meister competed at the 2007 NCAA Track & Field Championships, making it to the finals.
The top 24 runners will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 31, at 6:45 p.m. The top-12 runners from each regional will compete at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon.
