SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Regular-season runner-up Davidson has earned the second seed in the 2014 Southern Conference Baseball Championship, and will open play Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park in Charleston, S.C. against the winner of a Tuesday single-elimination game between seventh-seeded Elon and 10th-seeded The Citadel.
All 10 Southern Conference teams will participate in the tournament, which will take place May 20-25. The tournament will open with seeds 7-10 participating in single-elimination games on Tuesday, May 20, for the right to advance to the double-elimination portion of the bracket, which feeds into a single-elimination championship game at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 25.
The tournament winner earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Baseball Championship.
Elon (27-25, 12-15) and tournament-host The Citadel (23-32, 8-18) will play Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. following a noon contest between eighth-seeded Furman (23-21, 11-15 SoCon) and ninth-seeded UNCG (21-27, 8-16).
Wednesday begins the double-elimination portion of the bracket, with Davidson (28-17, 17-8 SoCon) playing in the third game of the day at 5 p.m. The Wildcats finished second in the regular-season standings with a program-record 17 wins to claim the No. 2 seed and its highest finish since 1987.

The Wildcats won their season series against all four opponents, as they opened their SoCon slate with a sweep of The Citadel (Mar. 14-15), and then took two of three from Wofford (Mar. 21-23) the following week. Davidson also took two-of-three from Samford (Apr. 11-13) and Elon (May 2-4).
