Paddon Claims 1500m Title at SoCon Track Championships

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Sarah Paddon won the 1,500-meter run to lead the Davidson women's track & field team on the second and final day of the 2014 Southern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Wofford at Spartanburg High School.
Davidson finished sixth overall, accruing 28 points in their final SoCon showing. Samford won the women's team title with 166.5 points, followed by Western Carolina in second with 155. Elon claimed third with 131 points.
Paddon shaved four seconds off her own school record, running a 4:24.54 in earning her first-ever SoCon title. The win marks the first individual championship at the outdoor meet for the Wildcats since 2009 when Danielle Ruggieri won the 10,000-meter run.
Olivia Menden finished 11th in the event, taking second seconds off her preliminary time to run a 4:40.54.
In a follow-up to her stellar performance in Saturday's 10,000-meter run, Erin Osment ran a personal best in the 5,000-meter run. Osment grabbed fourth place in the event, posting a time of 17:15.21. Hayden Bates was 22nd in 19:10.85, while Ali Cobb and Caroline Turner took 24th and 26th, respectively. Cobb clocked in at 19:43.07 while Turner ran a 19:56.30.
The Wildcats wrapped up their final SoCon meet with a new school record in the 4x400-meter relay. Grace Watt, Ashlyn Gruber, Hannah Rieden and Brigid Behrens turned in a time of 3:52.35, taking nearly a second off the previous mark and picking up a fifth-place finish.
