HIGH POINT, N.C.  — The Davidson women's lacrosse team saw their school-record nine-game win streak come to an end when High Point used a 9-0 run to break up a tie and went on to earn a 15-8 decision in both teams' regular-season finale Sunday afternoon at Vert Stadium.

The Wildcats (10-6, 6-1 Big South) were seeking their second straight regular season Big South title, but saw the Panthers (11-5), who won the tournament title last year, finish undefeated at 7-0 to claim the title. Davidson earns the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Big South Tournament, hosting a quarterfinal game Wednesday, April 30, at 6 p.m.

Davidson also saw its 13-game Big South win streak come to an end after going 7-0 a year ago and winning its first six league games this year.

The Panthers put five players in the books with multi-goal games, led by Sara Kuhlman's four goals. Three of her scores came during the game-changing rally as six different players scored in the spurt. Four other Panthers had two goals each on the day.

The two teams played to an even 5-5 draw with over 15 minutes run off the clock in the first half. Emma Sissman netted three of those goals for Davidson, while Ann Fucigna had a goal and three assists, including one on Mary Leonard's score that gave the 'Cats a 5-4 lead.

It was short-lived as Kendyl Gardner tied it up two minutes later and the Panther run became. It spanned all the way to the 16:33 mark in the second half to give High Point a commanding 14-5 advantage and eventually the win.

Sissman lead Davidson with three goals, but was held scoreless after her final score 10 minutes into the first half. Fucigna, the 'Cats' leading points holder coming into the game, was also held scoreless the rest of the way after her assist to Leonard in the first half to finish with four points.

Leonard scored twice off the bench, Emily Cooke had two assists, and Erin Doherty, who stopped the HPU run with a goal at the 15:34 mark in the second half, and Katherine Rueger scored a goal apiece.

Davidson had a 3-1 lead after a Sissman goal off a Fucigna assist with 23:12 left in the first half. Then later after HPU tied it up, Sissman gave the 'Cats a 4-3 lead and Leonard would give them their last lead at 5-4.

High Point had a 30-15 advantage in shots and a 19-8 edge on groundballs. Both teams had an even 12 draw controls. Emily Rademacher and Holly Thomas had five draw controls apiece, with Thomas setting a new career high.

Goalie Katy Boyle was credited with five saves, while HPU's Julia Burns had four.

GAME NOTES: During the win streak, Davidson outscored the opposition 120-64 … the 'Cats finished 5-4 on the road … Davidson is one win away from matching last year's school-best 11 … during the win streak, Fucigna tallied 43 points on 27 goals and 16 assists, while Sissman had 30 goals … the 'Cats saw their four-game road win streak come to an end.
