Davidson Takes Third at Carolinas Cup

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Strong finishes in the 1,500-meter run, long jump and 3,000-meter run led Davidson men's track and field to a tie for third place at the Carolinas Cup Thursday night, hosted by Winthrop University.
Grayam Sailor-Tynes led a 1-2-3 podium sweep in the 1,500m, while Stewart Dalton won the long jump and was joined in the top three by Xzavier Killings. The two events accounted for 40 of the Wildcats' 83 points for the night.
Sailor-Tynes completed the 1,500m in 3 minutes, 58.66 seconds, and was followed by Walker Mogen (3:59.33) and Will McDuffie (4:01.07), in first and second, respectively.
Dalton leapt a personal best and Davidson all-time top-10 distance of 22 feet, 8.5 inches (6.92m), while Killings placed third with a top leap of 22-6 ¼ (6.86m) to earn a place on the school top-10 performers list.
The Wildcats added 19 more points in the 3000m by taking five of the top seven places. Daniel Samet led with a second place finish in 8:43.23, while Whitner Chase (third, 8:45.49), Aaron Forburger (fourth, 8:45.58) and Ryan Phillips (sixth, 8:46.12) finished close together. Sal del Giudice finished just outside the scoring in seventh (8:54.71).
Patrick Rollo (800-meter run, 1:53.42) and Charles Rappe (400-meter hurdles, 54.56) both earned runner-up finishes in their respective events. Rollo earned a place on Davidson's top-10 performers list in the 800m, while Rappe's time was a personal best.
A trio of top-five finishes rounded out Davidson's point-scoring performances. The 4x400-meter relay team of Rappe, Wesley Laytham, Rollo and Nate Faubion placed third in 3:20.82, while Faubion also earned a four-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 49.59. Chris Powell placed fifth in the triple jump in 42-8 (13.00m).
Appalachian State won the event with 134 points, while Gardner-Webb was second with 96 points. Davidson tied with Savannah State.
Andrew Lantz will compete in the Furman Blue Shoes Collegiate Saturday.
