'Cats Return to Wilson Field to Face Samford

- Davidson will play six of its next seven games at home before finishing the regular season playing 11 of its final 13 away.
- After sweeping Furman, Davidson reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since 2005, doing so in a program-best 28 games. This year's team is the 14th in program history to reach 20 wins. The school single-season wins record is 28, accomplished in 1988 and 1992.
- Dating back to last season, Davidson is enjoying its most successful stretch of Southern Conference play ever, as the Wildcats have claimed a program-record six consecutive SoCon series (at The Citadel, 5/3-4/13; at Samford, 5/16-17/13; The Citadel, 3/14-16/14; Wofford, 3/21-23/14; Georgia Southern, 3/28-20/14; at Furman (4/4-6/14), going 14-4 in those 18 SoCon games.
- Davidson has won 18 out of its last 22 games, and has just one losing streak this season, which lasted three games (at No. 6 NC State, 2/25; vs Miami, 2/28-3/1). Davidson saw its second-longest winning streak of the season of five games end Tuesday at UNC Asheville.
- DH/RHP Ryan Lowe has reached base in all 29 games this season, and 32-straight dating back to last season, and has at least one hit in his last 12 games. It's the longest reached base streak since Sam Payne reached in 33-straight across the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He's leading the Wildcats with a .355 batting average, which ranks sixth in the Southern Conference, and a .458 on-base percentage, which ranks fifth in the league.
- OF Nathan Becker leads the SoCon with a .647 slugging percentage and is in a three-way tie for third with a team-best eight home runs. He ranks second in the country in home runs per game (0.36). As a team, Davidson is one of the most prolific home run teams in the nation, ranking ninth with 29.
- As a team, Davidson is battting .305 to rank third in the SoCon behind UNCG (.308) and Georgia Southern (.313), and 16th in the nation. The Wildcats also rank third with a 4.07 ERA behind Elon (3.12) and Georgia Southern (3.19).
- RHPs Nick Neitzel (2.52) and Danny Mooney (2.79) lead the Wildcats and rank sixth and eighth, respectively, in ERA in the SoCon.

CBI TEAM OF THE WEEK: Davidson is garnering national attention for its hot start to the 2014 season, as the Wildcats have been one of 15 teams recognized weekly by College Baseball Insider for the past four weeks. Davidson has earned four consecutive honorable mentions.
PACKING THE BROOMS: Davidson's sweep of Furman (4/4-6) was its first three-game SoCon series sweep on the road since 1993, which was also against Furman.
HISTORIC SHUTOUTS: With shutout wins over Georgia Southern (3/30, 6-0) and Winthrop (4/1, 3-0), Davidson earned its first back-to-back shutouts since 1975 (California State - Pa.), and the first over two different opponents since 1906 (Catawba & Lenoir), The Wildcats have never strung together three consecutive shutouts.
CRIME STOPPERS: Davidson is tied for the lead in the SoCon in pickoffs (8) and leads in caught stealing (17). Nation and conference-leading base stealers Wofford (3/21-23) went 0-for-3 in stolen base attempts against the 'Cats. Catcher Daniel Gerow is second in the SoCon with nine caught stealings.
POWER SURGE: As a team, Davidson is ninth in the nation and is presently fourth in the conference with 29 home runs, for an average of one per game. The Wildcats hit 39 home runs in 49 games last season, and did not return top home run hitters Andrew Barna (12) and Michael Zeblo (7) (graduation). OFs Nathan Becker (8) and Forrest Brandt (5) have already surpassed previous career highs. Becker previously had just one in two seasons, while Brandt entered the year with four in three seasons.
SAVERS: Four different pitchers have combined for 11 saves this season. Senior RHP Michael Goldberg has settled into the closer's role recently, earning six saves since 3/19 (Wake Forest). The Wildcats' next save will tie a team record with 12.

VS. SAMFORD: Davidson trails in the all-time series with Samford, 5-11. The two teams met for the first time in 1999 in a non-conference game, and have played each other annually since Samford joined the SoCon in 2009. The Bulldogs have swept Davidson in their previous two trips to Wilson Field in 2010 and 2012, but the Wildcats took two of three at Samford last season.
SCOUTING SAMFORD
Samford is 20-13 overall, 6-6 on the road and presently sits third in the SoCon with a 6-3 record. The only common opponents with Davidson so far this season are The Citadel and Furman, which Samford claimed two of three from, and Davidson swept.
