DAVIDSON, N.C. – Kristian Garciaméndez-Rowold, Shane Macnamara and Matt Pacifici have been voted Davidson men's soccer tri-captains for the 2014 season as announced by head coach Matt Spear Tuesday afternoon.
"As always, we look to our underclassmen to choose captains," commented Spear, who is entering his 14th season at the helm of his alma mater. "Kristian, Matt, and Shane are excellent selections as they appreciate our culture, character and ambition."
Garciamendez-Rowold on being named a team captain…
"I'm very honored to be nominated team captain and humbled that my teammates recognize my commitment to the team. I'm looking forward to this fall and cannot wait to take the field with my brothers."
"We want to repeat the great start we had last season and maintain it throughout the season. We know that we can play at a high level, we just have to bring that intensity every day to continue improving so that we perform in games and get positive results. Ultimately, this will result in accomplishing our team goal, being A-10 Champions and making a run in the NCAA Tournament."
Additional Comments from Head Coach Matt Spear
"Captains need to be confident, aware and selfless – they must call out their peers when our standards of excellence are not met. And ideally they are both leading performers and an extension of the coaching staff."
"We focus on leadership for all of the players. In fact, the team did a recent analysis/rating of one another on nine categories such as Communication, Focus/Commitment, Poise/Confidence, Accepting Feedback, and Mental/Physical Toughness."
