Wofford Snaps Winning Streak; Sunday's Game at 11 AM

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Wofford scored runs in each of the final six innings to defeat Davidson, 20-7, and halt the Wildcats' winning streak at nine games, in Southern Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Wilson Field.
Davidson and Wofford will vie for the series victory at Wilson Field Sunday with first pitch at 11 a.m. due to expected inclement weather. RHP Nick Neitzel (2-0, 2.05 ERA) will take the mound for Davidson and face Wofford's RHP Connell Anderson (1-1, 3.18 ERA). Wofford (15-8, 1-1 SoCon) totaled 16 hits, led by first baseman Conor Clancey, who went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, and right fielder James Plaisted, who hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam. Catcher Luke Feisal came off the bench and also homered once. The Terriers also took advantage of three Davidson (12-7, 3-1 SoCon) errors for four unearned runs.
RHP Luke Leftwich (3-1) held the 'Cats to two runs on four hits until the eighth inning, when the Wildcats scored five unearned runs. Leftwich finished with seven runs allowed (two earned) on eight hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched.
First baseman Ben Arkin led the Wildcats offensively going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Additionally, centerfielder Forrest Brandt hit his third home run of the season and went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while designated hitter Ryan Lowe singled to extend his reached base streak to all 19 games this season.
The Terriers took command in the fourth inning, breaking a 1-1 tie with RBIs from leftfielder Demetrius Jennings (2-for-6, 2 RBIs) and second baseman Dylan May (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) for a 3-1 advantage. Davidson pulled back within one on an RBI-single by Arkin, but Wofford added another run in the fifth inning and then batted around in the sixth, scoring five runs on four hits, a walk and an error for a 9-2 lead.
RHP Danny Mooney (3-2) suffered the loss, allowing eight runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks in five innings, with five strikeouts.
Wofford added another run in the seventh inning and four more in the eighth, for a 14-2 lead, before Davidson closed the gap to seven by batting around in the bottom of the eighth and scoring five unearned runs. Plaisted's grand slam came in the top of the ninth as part of a six-run inning for the final margin.
