Men Third, Women Fourth After Day Three of CCSA Meet

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Dylan Ludwick and Elise Lankiewicz were again the highlights for the Davidson swimming & diving teams, who completed the third of four days at the CCSA Championships at the Allan Jones Natatorium at the University of Tennessee Friday evening.
The men's team remains in third place with 445.4 points. Incarnate Word has taken over the lead with 618 points, while UMBC is second with a score of 596. The women's team has moved into fourth place with a score of 257. Liberty continues to lead the way with 471 points, followed by Florida Gulf Coast with 453. Georgia Southern is also in front of the 'Cats with a total of 305 points.
Ludwick and Lankiewicz both claimed the runner-up spots in the 200-yard freestyle. Lankiewicz, who previously set a school and CCSA record as part of the 800 free relay, clocked in at 1:48.57, and was joined by Angie Healy in the "A" final. Healy was fifth in 1:50.40, with Liz Mace taking 14th overall in 1:52.40.
After setting a new meet, league and school record with a time of 1:37.19 in the prelims, Ludwick bested his Davidson program record but lost the meet and CCSA mark with a second-place finish in a time of 1:36.51 – a time good enough to meet the NCAA "B" standard.
Brandon Kegley joined Ludwick in the finals, taking eighth place in 1:39.79. Max Schimanski and Ben Stewart-Bates took 13th and 14th, respectively. Schimanski finished in 1:42.70 while Stewart-Bates swam a 1:42.87.
Grant Smith also picked up a second-place finish for the Wildcats, swimming a 3:56.97 in the 400-yard IM. Spencer Davies was 13th in the event, clocking in at 4:07.81. On the women's side, Emily Covert and Anna Blair Bullock posted top-15 finishes in the 400-yard IM, taking 10th and 12th, respectively. Covert touched in 4:29.27, while Bullock was close behind in a time of 4:31.19.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Meredith Nakano took fifth place after touching the wall in 54.95, narrowly missing the Davidson school record. Emma Tobey also qualified for the finals, taking 14th place in 57.78. Last year's champion, Will Fox, took seventh in 50.34 and was closely followed by Thomas Bigham in eighth with a time of 50.64.
The Wildcats placed three more in the top-16 of the event, led by Cameron Bard in 11th with a time of 50.34. Drew Gill earned a 12th-place finish in 50.93, while freshman Chris Cardwell claimed 15th after hitting the pads in 51.34.
Freshman Katy Williams just missed an NCAA cut, taking fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.02 – besting her own school record. Meredith Nakano also finished inside the top 10, taking ninth with a time of 1:03.71.
Spencer Gill was Davidson's top finisher on the men's side, claiming fourth in a Davidson-record time of 55.88. Bigham was sixth in the race with a time of 56.94 and was followed by Drew Gill, who tied for seventh in 57.04.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Healy was Davidson's lone representative in the event and took 16th in 57.35. Luke Burton was sixth for the men in 49.93. Ethan Levinson took 11th in the event in a time of 51.06.
In the 1-meter diving, Brian McRae claimed fourth place with a score of 269.90. Max Feinstein also posted a top-10 finish, coming in eight with a score of 1:55.75.
The Wildcat women wrapped up with a third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Lankiewicz, Williams, Nakano and Healy clocked in at 3:45.31 to tie the Davidson record. Lankiewicz also set a new school mark with her leadoff time of 55.58 in the 100-yard backstroke. The men were fourth, as Burton, Gill, Fox and Ludwick swam a 3:20.41.
Davidson will gear up for the fourth and final day of competition on Saturday. The preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m. Saturday evening.
