Lankiewicz, Ludwick Win Titles on Day Two of CCSAs

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Elise Lankiewicz and Dylan Ludwick swept the 500-yard freestyle events as the Davidson swimming & diving team completed day two of action at the CCSA Championships at Allan Jones Natatorium on Thursday evening.
The Davidson men sit third through two days of swims, collecting 219 points. UMBC has edged into the lead with 288.5 points, with Incarnate Word trailing at 284. The Wildcat women are fifth with 134 points, trailing first-place Liberty (264) and second-place (238).
Lankiewicz claimed her first-ever CCSA title in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a Davidson record time of 4:48.56. She narrowly missed the league and meet record of 4:48.22. Teammate Anna Blair Bullock joined her in the finals, swimming a 4:56.72 for 11th place overall.
Ludwick also put forth a record-breaking effort, setting a new school, conference and meet record in with a time of 4:23.19. It marks his third-straight title in the 500-yard free. Max Schimanski also earned a top-5 finish, swimming a 4:33.34 for fifth place. Will Fox was 13th in a time of 4:37.10 with Ben Stewart-Bates claiming 14th after clocking in at 4:37.25.
Kaliya Burton-Akright was the runner-up in the 1-meter diving, scoring 265.55 points. Karen Monuszko was 10th with a score of 236.45. Brian McRae placed fourth in the men's 3-meter with a score of 250.60. Max Feinstein was eighth with a score of 170.20.
In the 200-yard IM, Grant Smith swam a 1:51.01 to take fifth place. Ethan Levinson finished 13th, touching the pads in 1:54.32 and was immediately followed by Adam Hunter in 14th at 1:54.47. Spencer Davies also swam the finals, taking 16th in a time of 1:55.92.
Freshmen Erica Clancy and Kassie Shannon finished 12th and 13th, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle. Clancy touched the pads in 23.82, followed by Shannon in 23.85. Caroline Vrana grabbed 14th place in 24.20.
Luke Burton and Cameron Bard also claimed back-to-back finishes in the men's 50-yard free. Burton was seventh in 20.96, with Bard in eighth in a time of 21.17. Brandon Kegley finished 11th in the event in a time of 20.85.
The women's 200-yard freestyle relay claimed third place to pick up points for the Wildcats. Clancy, Lankiewicz and Shannon teamed with Angie Healy for a time of 1:33.01, setting a new school record in the event. The men's squad took fourth, as Bard, Ludwick, Burton and Kegley combined to swim a 1:21.72.
The Wildcats return to action tomorrow, starting with preliminary swims at 10 a.m. Those who qualify will return for tomorrow night's finals at 6 p.m.
