Fountain Paces Wildcats on Day One of Spring Opener

MOBILE, Ala. – Led by Richard Fountain's two-over-par day, Davidson sits 10th at 596 (299-207) after 36 holes of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate Monday.
The two-day event is being played on the Par 72, 7,212-yard Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove Golf Club layout.
Fountain shot a 74 in the opening round and was poised to finish under par in the second, but bogeyed his final three holes to finish at even-par 72 and sit tied for 16th individually. Todd Eckstein (73-75) and Sam Echikson (74-74) both finished the first day two strokes back at 148 to sit tied for 28th individually.
Ralph Blasey (78-76) was Davidson's final scorer and is currently 10-over.
No. 27 Auburn, which is one of four ranked schools in the 15-team field, holds the top spot on the team leaderboard at four-under 572 (290-282).
The Tigers' Niclas Carlsson and Payne Deman of Middle Tennessee State sit atop the individual standings with a 36-hole total of four-under 140.
The final 18 holes are slated to tee off from No. 1 and 10 Tuesday at 8 a.m., with live scoring available at www.golfstat.com.
