CHARLOTTE, N.C.  —  In a battle between cross-county rivals, the Charlotte 49ers captured an 86-51 decision over Davidson Sunday afternoon in Halton Arena.

The Wildcats dropped their sixth straight in the series, falling to 3-8 on the season, while the 49ers ran their record to 4-7 overall.

Charlotte shot 53.4 percent for the game, including 56.3 percent in the first half when it raced out to a 27-6 lead and eventually increased its advantage 44-14 going into halftime.

Four players reached the double-figure mark for the 49ers, led by Alexis Aexlander's 14 points off the bench. Lefty Webster scored 12 and Hillary Sigmon and Kira Gordon tied with 11 points each.

The Wildcats had a pair of double-digit scorers, with Hannah Early and Mackenzie Latt getting 12 points apiece. Early just missed a double-double with nine rebounds, five coming on offense, and Latt pocketed a team-high three steals to give her 24 on the season.

A pair of Early layups and a Latt jumper to start the game kept things close at 7-6. The duo though, were the Wildcats only offense in the first half, combining for 12 of the 14 points.

It was all Charlotte from there on, as the 49ers took control with a 20-0 run during an eight-minute span to grab a 27-6 lead with 8:10 left in the half. The lead would grow to 39-10 on a fastbreak layup and Davidson was forced to use its third timeout of the half.

Dakota Dukes scored the final two points for the 'Cats of the first half on a layup and Davidson trailed by 30 points at the break.

Six straight points by Early in the middle stages of the second half got Davidson within 30 again at 64-34, but it would be as close as the Wildcats got the rest of the way.

The Wildcats, who shook off a cold-shooting first half to hit 44.4 percent of their second half field goals (16-of-36), outscored the 49ers 34-28 in the paint and had 13 second-chance points on their game-high 15 offensive rebounds.

Davidson takes a seven-day break for Christmas and then heads to Charlottesville, Va., for the Holiday Inn University Area Cavalier Classic, Dec. 28-29, hosted by Virginia. The 'Cats will open against UVa. at 2:30 p.m. and then face Miami (Ohio) the next day at 4:30.

GAME NOTES: Davidson and Charlotte were playing for the 25th time, with the 49ers leading the series now 15-10 … Early pushed her career game total of scoring in double figures to 39 and has reached the double-digit mark in all 11 games this year … nine of 11 Wildcats that played etched their name in the scorer's book.
