'Cats Close Preseason with Queens Saturday

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Wildcats look to make their final adjustments with one last tune-up in the preseason as they host Queens University Saturday at 5 p.m. in a women's basketball exhibition at John M. Belk Arena.
After Saturday's final exhibition, Davidson will open the regular season on the road, heading to former Southern Conference-foe Furman, Nov. 14, for a 6 p.m. game.
Quick Notes of the Team and the Season Ahead...
• Davidson opened the presason with an 83-51 exhibition win at home last Thursday, Oct. 30, against Catawba College.
• Dakota Dukes (15 points, 11 rebounds) and Mackenzie Latt (10, 10) each registered a double-double. Mellissa Giegerich also recorded double-digits in rebounds with a game-high 14 to go with seven points and four blocks.
• Lillian McCabe had a game-high 17 points off the bench, while Hannah Early added 16 points.
• Oct. 21, was Atlantic 10 Media Day and Davidson was picked to finish 12th in its first season in the league. For more details click here on A-10 Media Day.
• The 2014-15 season will be the program's 36th and the Wildcats are one win away from reaching 400.
• After a 21-year run in the Southern Conference, Davidson officially joined the Atlantic 10, July 1, 2014.
• Davidson went an even 16-16 overall last year and 11-7 in its final season in the SoCon.
• The 'Cats went on to the SoCon Championship game for the second year in a row, before falling to Chattanooga.
• The Wildcats ended their tenure in the league with a 203-164 record and one regular season title, the program's first in 2011-12.
• Davidson has reached postseason play three times, earning bids into the Women's NIT in 2007, 2012, 2013.
• Over the past 12 years, Davidson has won at least 15 games in nine of those seasons.
• Three of those seasons saw the Wildcats win 23, 22 and 22 games, respectively, with both 22-win campaigns coming under Savage in back-to-back seasons.
• Davidson returns two of its top three scorers from last year in Dakota Dukes (14.4 ppg, 7.7 rpg) and Hannah Early (13.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg and shot 41.7 from three-point percentage).
• Davidson returns seven letterwinners and four of its five starters from a year ago.
• The Wildcats welcome three freshmen: Saadia Timpton (Charlotte, N.C.), Diona Johnson (Rochester, N.Y.) and Mackenzie Latt (Kalamazoo, Mich.).
• In addition, Melanie Ransom (out all last season after pre-season injury) and Kayla Seymour (sat out last year after transferring from University of Maryland Baltimore County) will also suit up for the 'Cats this year.
• Overall, the 2014-15 roster will feature three seniors, three juniors, three sophomores and three freshmen.

• Queens University is located in Charlotte, N.C., with an enrollment of 2,250 students.
• The Royals play in the South Atlantic Conference, which they joined in 2013. Prior to joining the SAC, the Royals were members of the Conference Carolinas since 1995-96. The Conference Carolinas was known as the Carolinas Virginia Athletics Conference before changing its name.
• Queens started women's basketball in 1989-90 and became a NCAA Division II provisional member in 1990.
• The Royals are coming off a 7-19 campaign last year, including a 6-16 mark in league play.
• They closed out the season a year ago with a 68-57 win over Anderson.
• Queens started the preseason this year with an exhibition game at Clemson, falling 73-36.
• Lacey Singletary had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to pace the offense.
• Queens was picked to finish last in the SAC preseason coaches poll.
• It returns just five players from a season ago and have nine newcomers.
• Leading the way is seniors Abbey Pettit (5.1 ppg in 2013-14) and Singletary (4.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg).
• Head coach Susan Yow is in her second year at Queens and has over 36 years of Division I and II experience, in addition to coaching in the WNBA and for the USA Basketball program where she has won three gold medals.
• Before her senior season began, Yow transferred from Elon to North Carolina State completing her collegiate career as the first women's basketball player at the school to ever be named to the Kodak All-American Team after earning first team honors for the second year in a row. During that season, she led the Wolfpack in scoring (19.4 ppg), rebounding (11.9 rpg), field goal percentage (.584) and free throw percentage (.832) while serving as team captain.
