NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Matt Pacifici of the Davidson men's soccer team has been named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week for matches played Oct. 27 - Nov. 2, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
"We played three games over six days, so not only was it a packed stretch, it was crucial that Matt deliver both inspired leadership and peak performances," said Davidson head coach Matt Spear.
A junior from Charlotte, N.C., Pacifici finished the week with 274 scoreless minutes and two shutouts while leading the Wildcats to a 2-0-1 week, including a scoreless draw at Virginia Tech and a pair of conference wins over the weekend.
Davidson, which extended its home unbeaten streak to 10 straight with its win over UMass on Senior Day, enters the final week of the regular season 9-2-4 overall and 3-2-1 in league play.
"Matt is very close to our Seniors, and he was instrumental in pushing and elevating the team to a big win on Sunday to celebrate our seven Seniors."
In addition, Pacifici recorded nine saves for the week, while lowering his season goals-against-average to 0.73, which is on pace to be the lowest in school history for a single season.
"Matt is determined to keep the team composed and hungry as we enter the final stretch of the season," commented Spear.
Davidson will conclude its regular season with a pair of road contests, beginning with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Saint Joseph's on Thursday night in Philadelphia.
