Wildcats Fall at VCU in Season Finale

RICHMOND, Va. – The Davidson volleyball team squared off against a strong VCU team and could not figure out the Rams offense, dropping a 3-0 decision Saturday afternoon at the Siegel Center. Davidson dips to 4-20 on the year and 2-12 in the Atlantic 10 while VCU improves to 9-5 in league play and 16-12 overall.
Hannah Rau fronted the Davidson attack with eight kills on the night and added nine digs and a block to her effort. Kelly Friers added five kills for the Wildcats, while Sarah Fink totaled four kills. Katriana Romanelli chipped in 10 assists in the loss. Kalah Jones and Janelle Sykes led the Rams with 12 and 10 kills respectively, with Jones hitting .550 for the match.
Davidson had trouble getting started against the Rams as the hosts used a 16-5 run early to gain a comfortable lead. VCU grabbed the final three points of the opening frame and hit .400 for the stanza to take the set 25-12.
VCU sprinted out to a 10-2 advantage to open the second set. The Rams put together a 12-2 spurt to power them to a 25-9 set win. Kalah Jones paced the Ram's offense with six kills, while Nora Reed and Janelle Sykes each turned in four.
The Rams jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, but a pair of kills from Fink and a pair of untimely errors by the Rams made it 14-11 midway through the set. VCU stood firm down the stretch, grabbing the next five points en route to a 25-17 set win and a 3-0 victory in the match.
