CHARLESTON, S.C. – Davidson running back Jeffrey Keil has been named to the initial 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS National Freshman Performer of the Year Watch List, it was announced Thursday morning.
Keil is one of 16 running backs and one of two Pioneer Football League players (Sam Schrader, Butler, RB) on the initial 30-player list.
The Tampa, Fla., native has seen action in all 10 games so far this season and has started the last four. His top performance, which earned a CFPA Performer of the Week honorable mention, came against Stetson when he carried the ball 33 times, scored two touchdowns and became just the sixth player in school history to run for more than 200 yards in a contest (215).
For the season, Keil has totaled 562 yards on 115 carries, averaging 4.9 yards per carry, with six touchdowns. He also has nine receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown.
Previous winners of the award include: Drew Reed (Lafayette), Sawyer Kollmorgen (Northern Iowa), John Robertson (Villanova), Taylor Heinicke (Old Dominion), and DeNarius McGhee (Montana State).
