
'Cats Race to Fifth-Place Finish at A-10 Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – In its first Atlantic 10 championship, the Davidson women's cross country team made its presence known. The Wildcats earned a fifth-place finish, out of fourteen teams, Saturday at Schenley Park.
"This was a great day for Davidson cross country," said Jen Straub, director of cross country and track and field. "I'm really proud of how both our men and women competed."
Duquesne claimed its second consecutive women's team title, totaling 58 points as the Dukes placed three runners in the top-10. La Salle took second with 111 total points, followed by Richmond with 112 points. Davidson was just two points behind fourth-place Saint Louis, which had 131 points on the afternoon, to finish in fifth with 133 points. La Salle freshman Morgan Szekely took the women's crown by a 10-second margin.
The women's team benefited from a cohesive effort, as four of Davidson's five scorers place within the top 35. Senior Erin Osment provided the biggest spark for the Wildcats racing to a ninth-place finish with a time of 18:03.8. Following the race, Osment earned All-Conference honors.
The Wildcats didn't wait long for their next finisher, with Sarah Paddon just 17 seconds behind Osment as the senior crossed the line in 18:22.5. Only 13 places back in the final standings was junior Olivia Menden, covering the course in 18:44.1.The Wildcat's fourth scorer was Sarah Sears. Sears, who was five seconds behind teammate Menden, was Davidson's top rookie performance.
Hayden Bates was the final Davidson scorer across the line. Bates, who narrowly missed breaking the 19-minute mark, posted a time of 19:01.4, good for 44th overall in the competition.
The Wildcats now set their sights on the NCAA regionals, which take place Nov. 14 in Louisville, Ky.
