DAVIDSON, N.C. – Freshman Dodi Allocca scored off a penalty stroke in the second half to stage a comeback bid over James Madison, but the Dukes two-goal lead was too much for the Wildcats to overcome as Davidson dropped a 2-1 decision on Wednesday night.
James Madison (8-3, 1-1) got things going first, notching the game's first tally midway through the opening stanza after some gritty back-and-fourth play between the two squads. Adrienna le Vatte picked up a deflection and dribbled parallel to the right base line. The junior snuck the ball to the far post past Emily Leytham to give the Dukes' an early advantage.
The Dukes padded their lead when James Madison converted a penalty corner. Dana Allaband redirected a shot from Loes Stijntjes to score her first goal of the season.
The Wildcats answered less than a minute later on a penalty corner. Hannah Fisher inserted the ball to Dodi Allocca who fired a shot towards goal and was awarded a penalty stroke. The rookie buried the ball in the left corner to tally her second goal of the season and to make the score 2-1.
James Madison held a 17-2 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in penalty corners. Junior netminder Leytham steered away nine shots on the night, while giving up two.
Davidson returns to Belk Turf Field Saturday, Oct. 11 as it hosts Atlantic 10 foe Lock Haven at 1 p.m.
