SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Kaity Anstrom tied the score, 1-1 in the second half, but the Davidson field hockey team could not hold on as the Wildcats fell at Missouri State, 2-1, Sunday afternoon. The tally was the first of the year for Anstrom.
Missouri pulled ahead at the 49:16 mark with a goal from Patrice Ahl. The Bears peppered Emily Leytham with three consecutive shots before Ahl found the back of the net off a rebound for her first goal of the season.
Davidson was able to tie the score at the 55-minute mark in the second half. Melissa Funsten passed the ball from the right side of the circle to Anstrom who pulled Megan Drew out of position to put the ball away and knot the score at one.
After trading shots, Missouri State took a, 2-1, lead off a Bear corner. Leah Reitmayer inserted the ball to Jackie Eskue who set it up for Andrea Codina. Codina fired a shot on the left side of to the right post pasted Leytham to ultimately secure the win.
Missouri State held the advantage in shots, 17-5 and penalty corners, 10-3. Leytham finished the afternoon with seven saves.
Davidson returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 8 when the Wildcats welcome James Madison to Belk Turf field at 6 p.m.
