DAVIDSON, N.C. — Dakota Dukes and Mackenzie Latt each recorded a double-double, and Davidson had four players overall reach double digits in points on its way to an 83-51 exhibition win against visiting Catawba Thursday evening in women's basketball at John M. Belk Arena.
Dukes tallied 15 points to go with 11 rebounds, while freshman Latt had a nice debut with 10 points and 10 rebounds. They were not alone in the double-figure column in rebounds, with Mellissa Giegerich pulling in a game-high 14 to go with seven points and four blocks.
Lillian McCabe came off the bench to lead the Wildcats in scoring with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Hannah Early followed with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting to go with seven rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Overall, Davidson shot 43.9 percent from the field and went 21-for-29 at the charity stripe.
For Catawba, Chloe Bully had 15 points and Terri Rogers poured in 10 points to go with six rebounds.
After Davidson fell behind 10-7 with about five minutes gone to start the game, the 'Cats went on a roll over the next 10 minutes grabbing the lead and it pushing out to 16 (38-22) on a McCabe three-ball. Later with 50 seconds left, Giegerich's layup gave Davidson its biggest lead at 45-26 of the half, before the Indians hit a pair of free throws to make it 45-28 at halftime.
It was all Davidson in the second half as it led by as many as 37 points on another McCabe jumper for a 75-38 advantage with 6:18 remaining.
The Wildcat defense held Catawba to 21.4 percent shooting for the game, including just 17.6 percent in the first half. They also out-rebounded the Indians, 64-41.
Davidson plays one more exhibition game, hosting Queens next Saturday, Nov. 8, at 5 p.m. in Belk Arena.
