Davidson Hosts Saint Louis, Dayton in Final Home Weekend

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson volleyball team will wrap up the home portion of its schedule this weekend against Atlantic 10 rivals Saint Louis and Dayton. The Wildcats will first host the Billikens on Friday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. before welcoming the Flyers to Belk Arena on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
Tricks & Treats
To celebrate Halloween, there will be candy and a costume contest at Friday's game. Fans are encouraged to dress to impress for the opportunity to win three free months of Netflix.
Thank You, Seniors
Davidson will honor the playing career of this year's graduating seniors, Sarah Roberts, Rachel Earnhardt and Anastasia Owen, prior to Sunday's match against Dayton. The class of 2015 will leave Davidson with 45 program wins, two Southern Conference tournament appearances and as an intricate part of the Wildcat's inaugural season in the Atlantic 10 conference.
Schedule Note
Davidson will close out their regular inaugural A-10 season with a trip to VCU Nov. 15. Due to scheduling conflicts, the first serve is now slated for 2 p.m.
Last Time Out
Davidson traveled to Kingston, R.I., to take on Rhode Island Saturday, Oct. 25. The Wildcats fell 3-0 to the Rams by set scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-23. Hannah Rau paced Davidson with seven kills, while freshman Sarah Fink scored five kills. Defensively, Emily Franklin and Kelly Friers led the Wildcats with six and four blocks respectively.
Dig It Out
Junior Morgan Shannon has played in 69 sets to amass 279 total digs to help the Wildcats average 14.29 digs per match. The junior libero enters play this weekend ranked fourth in the A-10 with a 4.04 digs per set.
Setting it Up
Sophomore Mikayla Derochie and freshman Katriana Romanelli have shared the setting duties as the team is averaging 9.89 assists per set. Derochie has dished out 450 assists for an average of 6.43 per set, good for ninth in the conference, while Romanelli has tallied 148 assists for a 3.36 average.
Block Party
Emily Franklin, Mary Harriet Moore and Hannah Rau have helped Davidson average 2.34 blocks per set, good for fourth in the A-10. Franklin leads the team with 74 total blocks and a 1.06 blocks per set average. Moore is a close second with 61 total blocks and an average of 0.87 blocks per set.
Scouting Saint Louis (17-7, 6-3)
Saint Louis sits in a five-way tie for second place in the conference standings with a 17-7 overall mark, 6-3 against the A-10. The Billikins have come on hot as of late, winning five of their last six, most recently falling to top-ranked Dayton 3-1. Saint Louis ranks second in the conference with 12.74 kills per set, and fourth with a .237 hitting percentage.
The Billikins defense is fourth in digs (15.08) and eighth in blocks (1.98). Danielle Rygelski is top on the team with 3.70 kills per set while Taylor Paulson's .315 hitting percentage also ranks first on the team. Meredith Boe leads the conference in assists at 11.07 per set as Anna Church stands first in the conference with 4.47 digs per set.
Davidson registered a 3-2 come-from-behind victory at Saint Louis in the first meeting between the teams. Hannah Rau totaled a season-high 17 kills as Rachel Earnhardt and Emily Franklin added 11 and nine kills respectively.
Scouting Dayton (21-5, 8-1)
Dayton enters the weekend riding a five game winning streak, after most recently dropping Eastern Kentucky and Saint Louis to earn sole possession of first place in conference standings with an overall record of 21-5 and 8-1 in conference play.
The Flyers rank in the top half of the league in kills (13.63), hitting percentage (.247), assists (12.75), blocks (2.56) and digs (15.74). Amber Erhahon and Isolde Hannah are third and fourth in the conference with .416 and .398 hitting percentage. Alaina Turner ranks fourth with 3.88 kills per set, with Jane Emmenecker's 11.56 assists per set toping the conference. The defense has been paced by Janna Krafka's 4.53 digs per set as Erhahon and Hannah have led the charge at the net with 1.42 and 1.03 blocks per set respectively.
Dayton defeated Davidson in straight sets the first time the teams met this season.
