'Cats Drop 3-0 Decision to Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – The Davidson volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Dayton Friday night at the Frericks Center. The Wildcats fall to 0-2 in Atlantic 10 play.
Dayton outhit the Wildcats .291 to .119 led by Jenna Jendryks' 11 kills. Four Flyers recorded at least five kills in the victory as Jane Emmenecker dished out 39 assists with 11 digs. Davidson was led by Hannah Rau who notched eight kills, while Emily Franklin recorded five block assists and tallied four kills to turn in a .500 hitting percentage.
Dayton took charge of the match early, opening a 15-4 lead in the first set. The Wildcats went on a 6-2 run, but it was not enough as the 'Cats fell, 25-16.
The Flyers led from the beginning to end in the second set, opening an 11-5 margin. Back-to-back blocks from Franklin and Michelle McNeight tied the score at 16, but Dayton went on a 4-0 stretch to secure the victory, 25-19.
The third set featured eight ties and two lead changes, but it was the Flyers who would prevail, 25-18. Davidson jumped out to a 10-7 lead before two kills from Alaina Turner tied the score at 12. Dayton was able to regain the lead with a 5-1 run, 21-17, and held on down the stretch for the victory.
Davidson will return to the court Sunday, Oct. 5 at St. Louis with a 1 p.m. match inside Chaifetz Pavilion.
