'Cats Host George Washington and George Mason

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson volleyball team will continue its four-game homestand this weekend as it host George Washington and George Mason in its third full weekend of Atlantic 10 play. The Wildcats and Colonials will meet first on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. before the Patriots visit Davidson on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.

Dig Pink
Friday's match against George Washington will be the Cats' annual Dig Pink event to benefit The Side-Out Foundation, an organization dedicating to furthering breast cancer awareness, education and patient services. The squad will be selling t-shirts for $15 with a silent auction and raffle to benefit the foundation during Saturday's contest.

Davidson will hit the road to Fordham Friday, Oct. 24 (7 p.m.) before heading to Rhode Island, Saturday, Oct. 25 (6 p.m.) The Wildcats will then host Saint Louis Oct. 31 (7 p.m.), before facing first-place Dayton Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. Davidson will then travel to the D.C. metro area to play George Mason on Nov. 7 in Fairfax, Va., and George Washington the next day at 7 p.m. The 'Cats will close out their regular inaugural A-10 season with a trip to VCU Nov. 15 at 4 p.m., before heading to Dayton, Ohio for the conference tournament Nov. 21-23.

Last Time Out
Davidson suffered another setback in A-10 play Sunday afternoon, falling to La Salle, 3-1 at Belk Arena. The defeat came by set scores of 25-20, 18-25, 25-18, 25-19.
Hannah Rau recorded her sixth double-double with 17 kills and 10 assists.
Sarah Fink added 13 kills and a block while hitting at a .458 clip, with Kelly Friers and Michelle McNeight chipped in seven kills apiece.
Where We Stand
Davidson is currently tied with George Mason and Fordham for seventh place in the Atlantic 10 standings with a 1-4 record. Dayton is alone atop the standings at 5-1, while George Washington and Rhode Island find themselves tied for second at 4-1. Saint Louis sits in fourth place with a 4-2 record, following by VCU (3-2) and Duquesne (3-3). La Salle rounds out the stands in 10th place with a 1-5 mark.
High Percentage
Sara Fink hit a career-high .458 (min. 12 kills) in the team's 3-1 loss to La Salle, registering 13 kills on 24 attempts with just two errors. Fink's 13 kills were also a new career high. As a team, the Wildcats rank eighth in the conference with a .154 percentage and have hit over .200 in a match three times this season, while eclipsing the .300 mark once.
On the Block
Davidson continues to dominate the net, ranking fourth in the conference and 77th in the country with 2.32 blocks per set. Emily Franklin leads the effort with 1.05 blocks per set, good for sixth in the conference, while Mary Harriet Moore isn't too far behind with 0.84 blocks per set.
Double Trouble
Hannah Rau recorded her sixth double-double against La Salle, this past Sunday. The Palos Verdes, Calif., native currently ranks among the team's leaders in kills (1st, 2.83), assists (4th, 0.20), digs (2nd, 2.83), blocks (3rd, 0.69) and service aces (1st, 0.15).
Scouting George Washington (13-5, 4-1 A-10)
George Washington is tied with Rhode Island for second place in the Atlantic 10 with a 4-1 record, and owns a 13-5 mark on the year after gutting out a 3-2 victory over Dayton last weekend. George Washington ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with a .243 hitting percentage and are also tops in the conference in kills per set (14.20), assists per set (13.20), blocks per set (2.75) and digs per set (16.03).
Individually, Chidima Osuchukwus' 3.84 kills and 3.75 hitting percentages per set ranks her third in both categories in the conference. Maggie Skjelbred owns a .307 hitting percentage to sit at seventh, while Kelsey Newman's 3.71 kills per sets puts her at fourth among conference leaders. Jordan Timmer has averaged 11.00 assists per set as the team's primary setter to rank 33rd nationally and second in the conference. On the defensive side, Maddy Doyle is first in the conference with 4.44 digs per set with Osuchukwu's 1.47 blocks per set ranking her 11th in the country and first in the conference.
Scouting George Mason (5-13, 1-4 A-10)
George Mason has lost four straight matches entering the weekend and stands at 5-13 overall, 1-4 in Atlantic 10 play. The Patriots rank in the bottom half of the conference in most statistical categories, but do rank second in the conference and 48th in the country with 2.49 blocks per set.
Morghan Martin and Jessie Greenslade have paced George Mason's offense with 2.56 and 2.27 kills per set respectively. Kelly Schaller (5.40) and Caitlyn Hipsher (3.41) have split the setting duties. Defensively, Alyison Farm has led George Mason with 5.00 digs per set as Sydney Fanoga and Lolade Owokoniran have added 1.04 blocks per set, the eight-best average in the conference.
