Davidson Finishes Second at Royals XC Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Paced by senior Erin Osment, who finished the 5K in 18:00.5, Davidson women's cross country finished second out of four teams at the Royals Cross Country Challenge Saturday.
"We ran a very strong race today," said director of cross country and track and field Jen Straub.
Osment, in her first action of the 2014 season, placed fifth overall in a competitive field. Junior Olivia Menden wasn't far behind as the junior crossed the line in 18:14.4 to take seventh.
"I'm proud of Erin and Olivia. It was a tremendous break out race for them," added Straub.
Freshmen Sarah Sears (18:38.4) and Helen Webster (18:40.1) ranked 15th and 16th respectively. Hayden Bates posted a time of 18:44 to take 18th place, while Hannah Reiden finished in 18:44.3 for 19th place. Allison Cheeseman ran 18:44.6 and Sierra Ponthiers crossed in 18:45.1 for 20th and 21st place respectively.
Davidson will next compete at the Atlantic 10 Championship in Pittsburg, Pa., Nov. 1.
