DAVIDSON, N.C. – Middle hitter Kylie Bishopp will join the Davidson volleyball team for the 2014 season, rounding out the Wildcats' first ever Atlantic 10 recruiting class.
A native of Tumwater, Wash., Bishopp saw time at middle hitter, outside hitter, defensive specialist and libero while playing for head coach Tana Otton at Tumwater High School. Bishopp was the 2013 offensive player of the year and a second team all-league honoree as the squad finished sixth in the 2A division. As a junior in 2012, she helped the Thunderbirds finish second in the state in the 2A division. Bishopp averaged 3.9 points per set with 276 kills as a senior in 2013, hitting .270 with 230 total digs.
"Kylie was a wonderful surprise for us last year when she attended our summer camp. She endeared herself to the coaching staff and players right away and her skills spoke for themselves," said head coach Chris Willis, who enters his fourth season at the helm of the program. "She'll add depth to our serve receive and defense with her tremendous ball control and volleyball IQ. She has the ability to step on the court right away and help our program. We can't wait to get Kylie in our gym this fall."
The daughter of Kevin and Jody and sister of Kaitlin and Jackson, Bishopp is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. She was a Tumwater High School Gold Card recipient for boasting a cumulative GPA of 4.0.
Bishopp joins previously announced signees Grace Schlicht (Appleton, Wis./Xavier), Kat Romanelli (Las Cruces, N.M./Mayfield), Sara Fink (Cornelius, N.C./Community School of Davidson) and Kelly Friers (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) to make up the Davidson volleyball freshman class of 2014.
