Davidson Earns Six Podium Finishes at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A pair of 1-2 finishes led the Davidson men's track and field team Saturday at the Joe Hilton Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina.
Competing in their first meet of 2014, Patrick Rollo (4:23.53) and Will McDuffie (4:25.86) led the Wildcats in the mile by claiming the top-two spots, respectively, while Daniel Samet (8:55.15) and Sal del Giudice (9:08.29) did the same in the 3000-meter run.
Stewart Dalton also had a strong day for the 'Cats, placing fifth in the 60-meter dash in a Davidson all-time top-10 performance of 7.18 seconds and taking third in the long jump with a top leap of 20 feet, 10 ¾ inches (6.37m).
Charles Rappe was the only other Wildcat to post a podium finish, placing third in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.98 seconds. Other top Davidson performances included Wesley Laytham placing fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:00.69 and Nate Faubion placing sixth in the 400-meter dash in 53.07 seconds.
Michael Lorentsen competed at the UCS National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., and cleared 13-9 1/4 (4.20m) to post his fifth Davidson top-10 performance in the event.
Three distance runners also competed at the Niswonger Invitational hosted by ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn. Whitner Chase led the trio and all other competitors, winning the 5000-meter run in 14:54.52 to earn a place on Davidson's top-10 performers list in the event.
Davidson will next compete at the High Point Team Challenge Thursday, Feb. 6.
