
Davidson Earns Season-Opening Win at Eye Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Erin Osment claimed individual victory in leading the Davidson cross country squad to the team title at the USC Upstate Eye Opener meet Friday evening in Spartanburg.
The Wildcats claimed the win with an average time of 19:25.08 and 21 points to defeat the host Spartans by nearly 20 seconds and 19 points. Presbyterian claimed third place with 84 points.
Osment crossed the finish line in 19:07.04, finishing just head of freshman teammate Jenny Fritz. Fritz posted a time of 19:07.92 in her collegiate debut for second place.
Brigid Behrens claimed fifth place, completing the course in 19:32.41. The Wildcat then claimed the next four spots, with Hayden Bates in sixth in a time of 19:34.94. Manya Swick ran a 19:43.10 for seventh place, followed by Hannah Rieden in eight after running a time of19:44.77. Sarah Paddon completed the 'Cat contingent, coming in ninth with a mark of 19:48.37.
"It's always exciting to pick up a win," said head coach Jen Straub. "I think this is a great starting point for our team."
Davidson next competes at the Winthrop Invitational, hosted by the Eagles in Rock Hill, S.C., Sept. 21.
