Derochie Earns Second Rookie Honor

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – For the second consecutive week, freshman Mikayla Derochie has earned Southern Conference Rookie of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 23. The league office announced the accolade Monday.
Derochie led the Wildcats with 10.3 assists per set as they went 2-1 to finish as the runner-up of the High Point Invitational. She also hit a team-high .344, hitting .300 or better in all three matches. Derochie posted career numbers in the squad's 3-2 loss to Murray State with 51 assists, six kills and 13 digs. She then bested herself vs. High Point, digging 16 balls vs. the Panthers. In addition to averaging 0.73 blocks per set on the weekend, Derochie recorded her second-best hitting performance of the season with an attacking percentage of .492 vs. North Carolina A&T.
Davidson will open their final season of SoCon play this weekend, starting Friday with a trip to Boone, N.C. The 'Cats will face Appalachian State in a 7 p.m. match before traveling to Cullowhee, N.C. to face Western Carolina in a 5 p.m. tilt on Saturday.
