
Derochie Tabbed as SoCon Rookie of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Freshman setter Mikayla Derochie has earned Southern Conference Freshman of the Week honors for her performance in last weekend's matches at the Georgia State Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. The accolade was announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
The Ramona, Calif., native stepped into her role as starting setter this season and has been a solid performer for the Wildcats ever since. Derochie notched 40 or more assists twice this weekend, averaging 10.25 assists per set. She came one shy of her career-high with 46 assists in the team's 3-1 win over Georgia State on Saturday. Derochie was also one of the team's blocking leaders with 12 block assists across three games for an average of a block per set. She tied her season-high with seven block assists against Central Florida Saturday evening.
In addition, Derochie recorded at least one service ace in every match, ranking second on the team last weekend. Hitting .294 in the tournament with five kills, she finished 12 sets with no service, receiving or attacking errors.
The Wildcats head to nearby High Point, N.C., to take part in the High Point Invitational this weekend. They open play Friday evening with a 7:30 p.m. contest vs. Murray State.
