Wildcats 10th After Day One of Tar Heel Intercollegiate

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Playing in their first event of the 2013-14 season, the Davidson men's golf team sits in 10th place following day one of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate.
The 54-hole event is being played on the 7,242-yard, Par 72 UNC Finley Golf Course, which was designed by Tom Fazio and is rated one of the top courses in the state.
Junior Todd Eckstein leads the way for the Wildcats with a 36-hole total of 149 (75-74). Sam Echikson (74-76), who carded seven birdies on the day, is one back of Eckstein, while Richard Fountain (76-75) is two behind his teammate.
Also competing for Davidson is Ralph Blasey (77-76 = 153) and freshman Andy Simmons (74-80 = 154).
After opening with a team score of 299 in the morning, Davidson carded a 301 in the afternoon and will enter the final round nine strokes back of UNCW and 12 behind VCU.
Georgia Tech (-12) holds the top spot on the team leaderboard by 15 strokes over N.C. State, while the Yellow Jackets' Seth Reeves (-6) and Richy Werenski (-5) are one-two on the individual leaderboard.
Boston College, Charlotte, Duke, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, NC State, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington and Virginia Commonwealth will also be participating in the event.
The third and final round will begin tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m.
