DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson cross country coach Jen Straub announced the team will travel to South Carolina and Alabama while continuing to take part in local meets as part of the 2013 cross country slate, which was released Monday.
"I'm excited to embark on a new adventure with this team," said Straub, who enters her 14th season at the helm of the Wildcats. "We are still very young, but I look forward to working our way towards some great accomplishments."
For the third straight year Davidson will travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to open at the USC Upstate Eye Opener Invitational. The Wildcats are the defending champions of the event, which will take place Sept. 6. They will then take part in the 27th Asics Invitational, hosted by Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., Sept. 21. Erin Osment was Davidson's top finisher in last season's event, pacing the squad to a sixth place finish.
Remaining in Charlotte, the 'Cats will head to McAlpine Park Sept. 27 for the Charlotte Cross Country Invitational, hosted by the UNC Charlotte 49ers. #Presley# Parkes placed 20th in the gold race to lead the team to a 10th place finish last year.
Davidson will take on a new challenge Oct. 18, trekking to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Crimson Classic to be hosted by the University of Alabama. The 'Cats will then return to Alabama soon after, as Samford will host the 2013 SoCon Cross Country Championships in Hoover Nov. 2. The meet will be the final SoCon event for Davidson, which joins the Atlantic 10 in 2014-15.
Following the SoCon meet, Coach Straub and the Wildcats head to Charlottesville, Va., for the 2013 NCAA Southeast Regional meet to be hosted by the Virginia Cavaliers Nov. 15. Those who qualify will move on to the NCAA Championships, held Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
