Fountain Advances to Men’s North & South Amateur Match Play

PINEHURST, N.C. – Richard Fountain advanced to match play of the 2013 Men's North & South Amateur Championship with a 54-hole total of 208 (-5) Thursday at Pinehurst Country Club.
Fountain, who finished stroke play tied for fourth after a final round 71, will take on Mikey Moyers (Standardsville, Va.) at 7:38 a.m. tomorrow morning in the Round of 16 on the historic Pinehurst No. 2, site of next year's U.S. Open.
The winner of Fountain/Moyers' opening round match will advance to the Round of 8, which will take place tomorrow afternoon.
A native of Raleigh, N.C., Fountain recently competed in his second NCAA Regional in three years, finished his junior campaign at Davidson with a 73.8 stroke average, eight sub-par rounds, three top-five finishes and six Top-10s.
A two-time all-conference selection, Fountain captured the 2011 Southern Conference individual title as a freshman.

About the Men's North & South Amateur Championship
The Men's North & South Amateur Championship is the longest consecutive-running amateur golf championship in the United States. Over the past century, the best in the golf world have vied for its coveted Putter Boy trophy. The winners now serve as legends in the game - Walter Travis, Francis-Ouimet, Billy Joe Patton, Jack Nicklaus, Curtis Strange, among other, and continues to draw the best in amateur golf circles.
Three rounds of stroke play followed by four rounds of match play will determine the Champion. The 132-player field will be cut to the low 60 and ties following the second round. The final 60 players and ties will compete for the 16 player match play field and medalist honors. All stroke play rounds will be contested on Pinehurst No. 8. The top 16 players who qualify for match play will compete on Pinehurst No. 2 playing two rounds a day until our champion is determined.
