Early on a Mission (by Justin Parker)
DAVIDSON, N.C. — Like her fellow teammate Dakota, rising junior Hannah Early had a summer to remember as she teamed up with Access to Success, the Christian-based organization founded by former men's basketball player Andrew Lovedale, to travel to Nigeria for a mission trip.
The Huntersville, N.C., native went on a 12-day trip to Benin City, Nigeria for A2S's latest mission. Early shares some of her experiences from the trip with pictures and a few blog posts below...
Early: "I went to Nigeria for two weeks with Access to Success, a non-profit founded by Davidson basketball player Andrew Lovedale. Access to Succes mission is to support underprivileged youth through athletic, educational and spiritual programs to help them develop the personal skills and traits necessary to reach their goals and grow as individuals of sound character and reputation.
On this trip, I helped lead the women's portion (around 80 girls ages 13 and up) with Stanford player Chiney Ogwumike as part of the five-day basketball camp held in Benin City, Nigeria. Also, before each day of camp, we held Empowerment sessions on the topics of Nutrition, Leadership, Reproductive Health, Goal Setting, and How to Study Abroad. We also held a three-day "after-school camp" (set up like a VBS--Vacation Bible School) for about 300 kids with the church we are partnered with.
It was an amazing opportunity to serve in Nigeria and this year I will be interning with A2S along with Shneeka Center and Taylor Pisel. Hopefully I will be able to return to Nigeria next summer! Here are a couple of my blog entries from the trip as well as some pictures... enjoy!"
