2013 Davidson Men's Soccer Schedule
DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to 10 home dates, Davidson's 2013 men's soccer schedule will feature six league matches and four against teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, announced head coach Matt Spear Monday afternoon.
"The schedule has a great flow, it will be important to start strong," commented Spear, who is entering his 13th season at the helm. "The exhibition matches will be significant measuring sticks."
Following preseason matches with UNCA (Home – 8/17) and Charlotte (Away – 8/24), the Wildcats will kick-off their regular season Aug. 30 against Navy at Alumni Stadium. Davidson, which plays four of its first six matches on 1992 Team Field, will host Marshall two days later before traveling to Harvard (Sept. 8) the following weekend.
"Navy and Marshall offer new, exciting, out of region opponents to kick off the regular season."
The Wildcats will battle Big South foes in consecutive contests when they entertain Campbell Sept. 11 and head to Longwood Sept. 14.
On Sept. 17, Davidson will take on Duke for the eighth straight season when the Blue Devils come to town for a 7 p.m. match.
"The ACC is once again a top, top conference so hosting Duke and Virginia Tech and clashes at N.C. State and Wake Forest offer opportunities for big-time, signature victories."
Following their first of four against ACC competition in 2013, the Wildcats will play four straight on the road beginning with their Southern Conference opener at Wofford Sept. 21. The stretch will also include trips to N.C. State (Sept. 24), Georgia Southern (Sept. 29) and Jacksonville (Oct. 5).
After their season-long road swing, the Wildcats will play six of their last eight regular season contests at home, including three straight to cap off the campaign.
Prior to a midweek game at UNCG Oct. 15, Davidson will welcome Liberty and Furman to Alumni Stadium for a brief homestand Oct. 9 and 12, respectively.
The month of October will also include a home date with Bowling Green (Oct. 15) and a tilt in Winston-Salem against longtime-foe Wake Forest (Oct. 22).
Davidson's season-ending homestand will feature Elon (Oct. 26), Virginia Tech (Oct. 29) and a "Senior Day" contest against Appalachian State (Nov. 1).
"Honestly, it is the Southern Conference matches where we need to focus most. We believe that each SoCon match is up for grabs – anyone, Davidson included, can win both the regular season and tournament. Nothing would be finer than concluding our rich, long history in the Southern Conference with a Championship."
The conference tournament will begin Nov. 9 with the quarterfinals being played at campus sites and the semifinals and finals taking place in Greenville, S.C., Nov. 15 & 17 at Furman University.
