DAVIDSON, N.C. – A record-setting weekend by junior attacker Ann Fucigna helped her pick up her second Choice Hotels Big South Offensive Player of the Week in women's lacrosse for games played, April 1-7, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Fucigna led Davidson to a 2-0 week on her way to setting the program's all-time mark for goals with her 135th Friday night vs. Campbell (W, 18-3) and then tied the single-game record for goals by netting eight in the 'Cats' 19-3 victory against Presbyterian Sunday.
The junior attacker, who was the league's offensive player of the week March 12, passed Jen Crawford's record of 134 goals by tallying the record goal at the 22:28 mark of the second half. She finished with four goals and an assist for five points in the win over Campbell.
Fucigna was not done with her record-setting week as she tied Lauren Kenchington's single-game record with a career-high eight goals Sunday in a win vs. Presbyterian. She scored five of her goals in the second half.
The Darien, Conn., native also recorded two groundballs in each game in addition to a draw control and a caused turnover during the weekend.
Fucigna has a team-best 43 goals, 18 of them against Big South opponents. She has scored 22 of her goals in the past four games. She ranks second on the team with 47 overall points.
The junior is close to setting another program record as she needs just five more points to pass Amanda Fleck's record of 185 points set from 1996-99. Fucigna already holds the single-season record for goals (51) and points (74).
Davidson (7-5, 4-0 Big South) looks to push its win streak to a school-best tying six straight when it wraps up a three-game homestand Friday, April 12 against High Point. It's a key Big South matchup as both teams are undefeated in league play.
