DAVIDSON, N.C. – Enjoying one of their most successful seasons in school history, the Davidson men's golf team will head to Daniel Island, S.C., this weekend for the 2013 Southern Conference Championship at the Ralston Creek Course. The 54-hole/three-day event is scheduled to begin Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
This marks the second straight year the championship has been competed on the Par 72, 7,446-yard Rees Jones layout.
Through eight events this season, Davidson has recorded two team titles, five top-five finishes and eight Top-10s, while holding a 299.45 team average.
In addition to pacing the Wildcats in stroke average, juniors Samuel Echikson (74.15) and Richard Fountain (74.45) lead the club in Top-10 finishes this year with four each.
Davidson has won the conference championship five times, but is looking for its first title since the 1968 season.
The team champion will receive the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship. The conference medalist will also qualify individually for NCAA postseason play should their institution not advance to regionals.
