DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson women's basketball senior Sophia Aleksandravicius followed up her outstanding month of January with another strong month in February, resulting in her taking home her second straight Southern Conference Player of the Month honor as announced by the league today.
The senior, who captured her fourth career player of the month award, led the Wildcats to a 6-2 month by averaging 18 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots per game in February. The Pound Ridge, N.Y., native scored in double figures in all eight of her contests, including a high of 26 points against Wofford, Feb. 18, when she shot an sizzling 84.6 percent (11-for-13) from the floor.
Aleksandravicius recorded the program's first triple-double two days earlier against Furman, scoring 20 points, pulling down 10 rebounds and blocking 10 shots, breaking her own school record which she set last year. She scored half of her 20 points at the charity stripe, going a personal-best 10-for-13.
The 6-5 forward helped lead Davidson to a 59-56 overtime win at UNCG, Feb. 20, with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She hit the game-tying layup to force overtime and then added a pair of free throws in the extra period to help seal up the win.
The senior had three other double-doubles in the month to push her season total to a career-high 15. For the month, Aleksandravicius shot just a shade under 50 percent from the floor (50-for-101) and swished home 81.1 percent from the free throw line (43-for-53). She was the league's player of the week, Feb. 19, and has taken that award three times this season.
Aleksandravicius and her four other senior teammates will close out their regular season careers in a 7 p.m. contest at John M. Belk Arena vs. Western Carolina Monday, March 4.
