Echikson and Fountain Lead Men’s Golf to Another Top-5 Finish

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Samuel Echikson and Richard Fountain tied for seventh, and the Davidson men's golf team finished tied for fifth at the 2013 Seahawk Intercollegiate hosted by UNCW Monday afternoon.
After sharing the first round lead, Fountain (71-79) carded a final round 79 to finish with a 36-hole total of 150. Echikson (77-73 = 150), coming off his first collegiate individual title, paced the Wildcats on day two with a 73 to record his third Top-10 showing of the spring.
Davidson, which entered the event with two team titles on the 2012-13 campaign, posted a two-day total of 617 (305-312) to collect its fourth top-five showing in the last five outings.
Also competing for the Wildcats were David Sargent (77-78 = 155), Todd Eckstein (80-82 = 162) and John Skeadas III (81-87 = 168).
The host Seahawks claimed the team title with a 36-hole total of 604. Kent State finished one off the pace, while Maryland came in third at 609.
UNCW's Payne McLeod fired a two-day score of one-under 143 (72-71) to win the individual crown by five strokes over three others.
The event featured 12 teams / 68 individuals and was played on the Par 72 Country Club of Landfall.
Davidson will enjoy a two-week break before returning to the course at the Irish Creek Collegiate April 6-7 in Kannapolis, N.C.
