W. Track Claims Top-5 Finishes at HPU VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. – A trio of top-five performances and a program record highlighted a another successful outing for the Davidson women's track & field team, who competed in the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University on Saturday afternoon.
Ashlyn Gruber took fifth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.78, while Olivia Menden grabbed fourth in the 800-meter event with a 2:16.58 for a career best. Meanwhile, Molly Marshall picked up third place in the pole vault for the 'Cats, clearing a height of 2.87-meters for a new program record.
Grace Watt also took home a top-10 finish in the 800m, running a 2:19.47.
The Wildcats were represented in the 1,500m run by Sarah Paddon, who clocked in at 4:44.86 for an 11th place finish. Maggie Rickard participated in a separate part of the event, taking 29th in a time of 5:11.63.
Kate Kostecky placed 15th in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:09.99 for a personal best in the event.
Gruber, Paddon, Watt and Menden later combined for the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet ran a 4:03.89 for an 11th place finish, posting one of the top times in program history.
In the field events, Gracie Gordon took seventh in the long jump with a distance of 4.99 meters. Gordon also grabbed a 13th place finish in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 13.32.
Next up for the 'Cats are the Winthrop Invitational, hosted in Rock Hill, and the Raleigh Relays, both of which will be held March 29.
