BOONE, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis team traveled to the high country, but they were unable to come back home with a Southern Conference victory, dropping a 7-0 decision Wednesday afternoon at Appalachian State.

The Mountaineers, who returned home after seven straight matches on the road, improved to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in the SoCon. They have won the past 10 meetings vs. Davidson, which dropped its third league match in a row, falling to 2-3 while seeing its overall record drop to 8-6.

ASU swept the doubles matches, but Davidson did not go down without a fight. The 'Cats' No. 2 team of Chris Mark and Kevin Moore and their No. 3 team of Connor Evins and Nicky Kunz took the Mountaineers to an extra game before falling 9-8 in both matches.

The singles play went to the Mountaineers as well, capturing all six spots. Ethan Kallick won his first set, 7-6, but dropped a 6-4 decision in set two and then fell 10-6 in a super tie-breaker.

Mark pushed his opponent Zach Bost at No. 3 to a pair of tie-breakers, but came up short in both sets, 7-6, 7-6.

Evins scored 10 games combined, but fell 7-6, 6-4 at No. 5, while Kunz also battled to the end at No. 1, falling 6-3, 7-5. Robert Lightbourn also dropped a 6-3, 7-5 decision at No. 4, while Joe Schafer fell to 8-5 (3-2 SoCon) with a 6-3, 6-2 loss at No. 2.

Davidson comes back home this weekend for a March 23 SoCon-battle against Georgia Southern at 1 p.m.
