DAVIDSON, N.C. — Senior forward Sophia Aleksandravicius added yet another honor to her record-breaking career by earning a nod on the CollegeSportMadness.com's All Mid-Major Second Team as announced recently.
The senior, who swept the coaches and media's 2013 SoCon Player of the Year awards, was the only Southern Conference player named to any of the four teams.
A two-time SoCon Player of the Year, Aleksandravicius led the Wildcats to the program's second-ever appearance in the league tournament final, falling on a heartbreaking last-second loss to Chattanooga. She was named to the SoCon All-Tournament First Team after averaging a double-double for the weekend on 19.3 points and 11.7 rebounds a game. She set new Wildcat tournament records with 58 total points, 23 made field goals, 35 rebounds and 14 blocks. The forward's single-game marks of 13 rebounds vs. UNCG in the quarterfinals, and five blocks each vs. UNCG and Elon in the semifinals were also new tournament bench marks.
The Pound Ridge, N.Y., native had a historical senior campaign as she broke the program's all-time scoring and rebounding marks, while setting four other all-time records. She is the first female basketball player at Davidson and just the third player ever to have over 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
Aleksandravicius was the SoCon Player of the Week three times, while being named the league's top player for the months of January and February. She was also named to the All-SoCon First Team by the coaches and media, becoming the first Wildcat in program history to garner first-team honors three times on both teams.
The 6-5 forward has registered a career-high 19 double-doubles, pushing her career total to 49. She also has scored in double digits 102 times during her career, including 29 this season. Aleksandravicius recorded the program's first triple-double, Feb. 16, when she scored 20 points, pulled in 10 rebounds and blocked a single-game school-record 10 shots.
Aleksandravicius paces the team in scoring this year at 16.1 points (2nd in SoCon) and 10 rebounds (tops in SoCon). Her 532 total points broke her own single-season Wildcat mark of 511 she set in 2010-11, while she broke the single-season rebound mark with 331, held previously by Mercedes Robinson's 288 set in 2008-09.
Davidson (21-12) will wait to hear of its postseason news next week, March 18.
