Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson (2-1) opened the season with a pair of victories over George Washington, before Sunday's game was canceled due to snow remaining on Wilson Field. The video of the snow's arrival Saturday is now the second-most viewed video on the Davidson Athletics YouTube channel all-time, with just under 9,000 views. The Wildcats were defeated in their first road contest, falling to NC Central for the first time in 10 all-time meetings, 3-1. Freshman Lee Miller has been Davidson's top hitter, ranking second in the league with a .600 batting average (6-for-10), first with a 1.450 slugging percentage, and in a five-way tie for second with two home runs. Junior Forrest Brandt's grand slam in the season opener was the first by a Wildcat since 2010, when then-freshman Michael Zeblo hit one.
Scouting the Hoyas
Georgetown (0-2) fell to SoCon member Wofford in 10 innings and then lost a snow-shortened contest to UNC Asheville the following day to open the season. The 2013 Hoyas return 21 letterwinners and a strong nucleus of contributors from last year's squad, which finished mere percentage points away from a postseason berth. Steve Anderson was the Hoyas' top hitter, going 2-for-5 with a pair of walks, and driving in two runs. Georgetown went 24-29, narrowly missing the Big East tournament at 9-17 in league play.
Scouting the Leopards
Lafayette (0-0) will be opening the 2013 season at Davidson after compiling a 14-37-1 record last season. In the Patriot League, Lafayette went 7-13 to finish fourth. They are returning seven starters, including infielder Kevin Casey who batted .330 in 2012. RHP Alex Farina boasts the best ERA of the returners at 3.12.
Series History
Since the series began with Georgetown in 1930, Davidson holds a 13-8 advantage with the last meeting between the two teams taking place in 2011. Davidson and Lafayette both had their last meeting in 2011 too, and the series, which began in 1989 is even at 6-6.
